Racetams

What are Racetams?

Racetams are a class of nootropics, that are synthetic compounds. Each compound in this family has a common structure, and are all based off of the original compound, Piracetam. Although structures are similar, it’s the structural differences that allow for varying properties and effects.

These compounds are taken in varying doses as some are more potent then others. They are known as cognitive enhancers because they specifically improve areas such as; memory, attention, concentration, and learning.

Types of Racetams

As mentioned, each racetam is it’s own unique compound. Therefore, each racetam yields different strengths and weaknesses. The following are some of the most popular racetams currently found on the market:

1. Piracetam

This was the first racetam to be developed in 1964. It is the most mild, but certainly a trusted cognitive enhancer. Since it is the original supplement and has the most extensive history, it is also the most well-known. It is recommended for those users who are not experienced with nootropics, as it is much less potent than other options.

Piracetam improves cognitive abilities associated with memory, learning, attention, and focus. Doses vary, but Piracetam is generally taken in 800 mg doses. You can take between 1 to 3 grams, up to three times daily. Since this racetam is less potent than others, the dosage is fairly high.

2. Aniracetam

Aniracetam was developed in the 1970s, being approximately five times more potent than Piracetam. Aniracetam will improve one’s focus and concentration levels. This makes it one of the best racetams to use when studying.

This compound is fat-soluble, and needs to be taken with food. Since it is fat-soluble, it will not dissolve properly in water. Many will take their Aniracetam powder with milk or with fish oil. The recommended daily dosage is between 600 and 3000 mg daily. You should also stack Aniracetam with choline, to avoid potential headaches.

3. Oxiracetam

This compound first appeared in the literature in 1977. This compound tends to provide the most stimulating effects. It is potent, and faster acting than both Piracetam and Aniracetam. Although it tends to be more expensive, you can take smaller doses due to its effectiveness and higher potency.

When taking Oxiracetam, users experience improved memory (especially spatial), as well as improved learning of abstract concepts. Increased mental energy is also a direct result, allowing for greater focus and attention.

This is a water-soluble compound, therefore it can be taken with water. The recommended dosage it around 750 mg to 1600 mg daily. There are few, mild side-effects associated with use, which are rare to begin with.

4. Pramiracetam

This compound first appeared in the literature in 1978. It is considered premium, as it is 30 times more potent than Piracetam. It is not only the strongest, but lasts the longest. It is known to increase mental energy levels, increasing one’s alertness. It is also known to improve memory and learning abilities.

Since it is so potent, less is needed. The recommended dosage is anywhere from 100 mg to 1000 mg within a 24-hour period. Many will split their dosage into two administrations. Once again, this is a fat-soluble compound and cannot be dissolved in water. This is a great compound to include in a stack.

How do Racetams Work?

This is not an easy question to answer, as complicated systems are involved. Neurotransmitters play a large role, especially Acetylcholine. This neurotransmitter plays a large role in learning, focus, memory, and decision-making.

These compounds cross the blood-brain barrier, which is where they bind to Acetylcholine receptors. When Acetylcholine is increased, cognitive abilities tend to improve. Not all mechanisms are fully understood, but neurotransmitters are a key component to the benefits experienced.

Increases in oxygen and glucose uptake are also important. When glucose metabolism is increased, there’s a higher level of mental energy. This allows users to feel more alert and focused.

Who Should Take Racetams?

Racetams have a positive effect on individuals that are experiencing cognitive decline. This may be in terms of dementia or Alzheimer’s, as many racetams improve memory. There have also been positive results reported for individuals that have experienced cerebral injury.

Since memory and attention are improved, many students are seeking racetams to aid in their studies. Not only is memory improved, but memory recall as well. This is allowing students to increase their learning capabilities. Higher levels of focus and increased attention span also play a role in more effective learning abilities.

Although students are avid users, they’re not the only ones that would benefit. Individuals working in fast-paced, mentally intensive environments, would also highly benefit. Anywhere that focus and attention are needed, racetams will provide benefits.

Are Racetams Safe to Take?

It’s important to look into the safety of any substance before beginning usage. When it comes to racetams, the same is true. Improving your mental capabilities is a positive, but if your health is at risk then it would not be worth it.

When it comes to racetams, there’s good news. They are considered to be safe, and yield low toxicity. For example, Piracetam is said to be safer than your daily cup of coffee.

However, like any supplement or medication, you should be aware of the possible side-effects. Side-effects for racetams are generally rare and mild. However, when individuals do not stick to the recommended dosage, they may experience some undesirable effects.

Most common side-effects include; headache, nausea, issues sleeping, and irritability. If you are experiencing this symptoms, simply stop taking your racetams immediately. Before continuing, discuss usage with your doctor. Headaches experienced, can generally be counteracted with a choline supplement.

Buy Racetams Online

If you’re ready to try nootropics for yourself, racetams are a very good place to start. No matter which type you want to try, you can buy racetams online. It’s really easy (and safe) to buy nootropic stacks – like racetams – on the internet. You can get a single month supply if you want, but in most cases it makes sense to stock up and order racetams to last for two or more months. This way, you can make sure you always have some on hand.
